Larry Dougherty, DDS

Larry Dougherty of Garden Ridge is the owner and lead dentist at Dougherty Cosmetic Dentistry. He earned his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Nova Southeastern University College of Dental Medicine in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. As a dental student, he was awarded the College of Dental Medicine Service Award for his commitment to welcoming all prospective students interviewing for dental school.

While serving as Chair of the San Antonio District Dental Society New Dentist Committee, Dr. Dougherty won an award from the American Dental Association for Outstanding Program by creating a Fantasy Football league involving members and sponsors.

Richard D’Avanzo, DMD

Dr. D’Avanzo is a Board Certified Orthodontist. He graduated from Albright College with a degree in biology and then obtained his DMD degree from Fairleigh Dickinson School of Dental Medicine.

He also obtained his Master of Science degree in oral biology from Temple University School of Dentistry with a specialty in orthodontics.

Robert Busch, DMD, MD

Dr. Robert Busch is a board-certified dental surgeon. He earned his dental degree from the University of Florida College of Dentistry before completing medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern. He went on to complete a general surgery internship followed by a residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UT Southwestern.

In addition, Dr. Busch trained at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, further strengthening his clinical and scientific expertise.

His work as a dental surgeon includes everything from single-tooth implants to full-arch restorations (All-on-4®). Dr. Busch also offers a comprehensive range of anesthetic options to ensure patient comfort throughout every stage of treatment.

In some cases, extractions are necessary before orthodontic treatments to create space for proper alignment.

Additionally, teeth may need to be extracted if they are impacted or causing infection. Dr. Dougherty will assess your situation and determine if an extraction is the best option for your oral health.

Wisdom Teeth Removal

Wisdom teeth often need to be removed if they are impacted, causing pain, infection, or damage to neighboring teeth. Our team carefully evaluates the best course of action and performs wisdom teeth extractions to prevent future complications.

How Are Wisdom Teeth Extracted?

Wisdom teeth extraction is a common oral surgery procedure performed to remove one or more of the third molars at the back of your mouth. These teeth often become impacted or cause overcrowding, leading to pain and other dental issues. During the procedure, we will make an incision in the gum tissue to expose the tooth and bone.

The tooth may be divided into sections for easier removal. After extraction, the site is cleaned, and stitches are placed to promote healing. Recovery typically involves some swelling and discomfort, which can be managed with pain relievers and ice packs.

After full integration, an abutment is attached to the implant post, and a custom-made crown is placed on top, completing the restoration. Dental implants offer a natural look and feel and help preserve jawbone integrity.

Bone Grafting

In some cases, the bone structure in your jaw may need to be strengthened or rebuilt, especially if you’re considering dental implants. Bone grafting helps ensure that your jaw is ready to support the implants and restore function.

When Is a Bone Graft Needed?

A bone graft is a procedure to replace or augment bone in your jaw that has deteriorated due to tooth loss, gum disease, or other factors.
