Want to Know More?

Veneers and crowns both improve the appearance of your teeth but serve different purposes. Veneers are ultra-thin shells, usually made of porcelain, that are bonded to the front surfaces of your teeth. They are primarily used for cosmetic improvements—such as covering stains, closing gaps, or correcting minor shape issues—without significantly altering the tooth’s structure.

In contrast, crowns cover the entire visible part of a tooth, providing full protection and support. Crowns are used when a tooth is significantly damaged, weakened by decay, cracked, or after root canal therapy. While crowns also improve appearance, their main role is to restore strength and function to compromised teeth.

Prepless, or no-prep, veneers are designed to be a less invasive cosmetic option because they typically don’t require removing any enamel from your natural teeth. Because of this, they are often considered reversible.

However, the veneers are bonded using dental adhesives, so removal should only be done by a dental professional to avoid damage to your teeth. It’s important to understand that while the tooth structure remains intact, prepless veneers still represent a semi-permanent treatment.

The longevity of veneers and crowns depends greatly on your oral hygiene and habits. With consistent dental care—including regular professional cleanings, daily brushing and flossing, and avoiding harmful habits such as biting nails or chewing ice—veneers and crowns can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years or more.

KöR whitening is known for delivering deep, long-lasting whitening results by effectively targeting stubborn stains. When maintained properly, the effects of KöR Whitening can last several years. To preserve your brighter smile, it’s important to practice good oral hygiene, schedule regular dental cleanings, and minimize consumption of stain-causing foods and drinks.

Crown lengthening is a dental surgery performed to expose more of the tooth’s surface by reshaping or removing excess gum tissue. Our team will provide detailed aftercare instructions and schedule follow-ups to monitor your healing and progress.

Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Dentistry in Garden Ridge, TX

What is cosmetic dentistry? Cosmetic dentistry focuses on improving the appearance of your teeth, gums, and overall smile. At Dougherty Cosmetic Dentistry, we use treatments such as KöR Whitening, prepless and traditional porcelain veneers, custom crowns, Invisalign, crown lengthening, and complete smile makeovers to create natural-looking, long-lasting results tailored to your facial features and goals.

Am I a good candidate for cosmetic dentistry? Most adults with healthy teeth and gums are candidates. Ideal candidates want to address stains, chips, gaps, uneven teeth, a gummy smile, or old restorations. During your consultation we evaluate your oral health, bite, and aesthetic goals to determine the best options for you.

Does cosmetic dentistry hurt? Most cosmetic procedures involve little to no discomfort. Whitening with KöR is designed for minimal sensitivity. Veneers and crowns are typically completed with local anesthesia when needed, and many patients report only mild temporary sensitivity afterward. We prioritize your comfort at every step.

How long do porcelain veneers last? With proper care, porcelain veneers commonly last 10–15 years or longer. Prepless and minimal-prep veneers are designed to preserve natural tooth structure while still delivering durable, stain-resistant results. Good oral hygiene and regular dental visits help maximize longevity.

How white can KöR Whitening make my teeth? KöR Whitening can lighten teeth by up to 16 shades in many cases and is effective even on deep or stubborn stains that other systems struggle with. Results are long-lasting when combined with simple at-home maintenance. We customize the treatment to achieve a natural-looking brightness that suits your smile.

How long does Invisalign treatment take? Most Invisalign cases range from 6 to 18 months, depending on the complexity of the movement needed. You’ll wear the clear aligners 20–22 hours per day and switch to a new set approximately every two weeks. Our iTero scanner with Outcome Simulator lets you preview your expected results before treatment begins.

What is a smile makeover? A smile makeover is a customized combination of cosmetic and restorative treatments (such as whitening, veneers, crowns, Invisalign, and/or crown lengthening) designed to create your ideal smile. We plan everything around your facial proportions, lifestyle, and preferences so the final result looks balanced and natural.

Is crown lengthening only for gummy smiles? No. While crown lengthening is excellent for improving a gummy smile by reshaping excess gum tissue, it is also used functionally to expose more tooth structure when a crown or other restoration is needed. We often use precise, laser-assisted techniques for greater comfort and faster healing.

Does dental insurance cover cosmetic dentistry? Many pure cosmetic procedures (such as elective whitening or veneers solely for appearance) are not covered by insurance. However, treatments that also restore function or address damage (certain crowns, some orthodontic cases, or medically necessary procedures) may receive partial coverage. We will review your benefits and discuss payment and financing options during your consultation.

How much does cosmetic dentistry cost in Garden Ridge / San Antonio? Cost varies based on the specific treatments, number of teeth involved, and materials chosen. Simple whitening is more affordable, while full smile makeovers are a larger investment. We provide transparent pricing and flexible financing options so you can move forward with confidence. A consultation is the best way to receive an accurate, personalized estimate.
